our accommodation is for your exclusive use

Steeped in history, built for a French Knight and previously a cognac-producing farm, Le Raby has seen many changes over its lifetime. Now, after many months of restoration and renovation, present owners Diane and Ian have given this cluster of Charentaise-stone buildings a new lease of life.

Each of the four gites has its own character and style and has been furnished to a high standard with care to preserve the property’s original features and traditional appearance, while also affording the comfort, privacy and convenience of a modern home.

The gites are set within an attractive walled courtyard and all guests have shared access to a screened, heated pool, with plenty of space for relaxing in the Charente’s famous sunshine or taking it easy in the shade.

The gites can be booked individually or together.

La Vigne, Le Pressoir and Le Liege each have one double bedroom, and sleep 1 or 2.

Le Chai has one double and one twin and sleeps up to 4.

Altogether the four gites can accommodate groups of up to 10 adults.

Le Raby is in the Grande Champagne cognac-producing region of South West France. Here you will find peace, tranquillity and a sense of calm… making it an ideal retreat for a ‘digital detox’.

We are surrounded by countryside, with views towards a forest about 250 metres away in one direction and over vineyards in the other, with the village of Bouteville some 2km in the distance.

Bouteville, our nearest village

Jarnac, home to the Courvoisier distillery – about 20 mins away

There are over 200 Cognac producers in the region and a visit to one of them is a must. But there is so much more to explore – from the local towns of Cognac and Jarnac to the lovely city of Angoulême… picturesque medieval villages such as Verteuil-sur-Charente (offering the best brioche in the world according to chef James Martin) and Aubeterre-sur-Dronne (with its underground church)… the Atlantic coast and the islands … and not forgetting beautiful Saint Emilion and the city of Bordeaux.

A Warm Welcome to Le Raby from Your Hosts Diane and Ian

Welcome to Le Raby!

We fell in love with the area during our many house-hunting trips in 2015 and opened our gites in 2018.

We especially love the rural tranquillity of the vineyards – you feel a sense of peace, yet you never feel isolated.

The climate was a huge factor in our decision to move to the South West of France as it’s the second sunniest region in France, with short mild winters and long summers.

We fell in love not only with the area and the gentle pace of life, but with Le Raby – a collection of dilapidated farm buildings that immediately won our hearts.

We moved here permanently early in 2016 and spent almost two years fulfilling our dream of renovating the property and converting it for gite holidays.

We look forward to welcoming you to Le Raby so you can see for yourself how special the place is.
